White's Prizm III

Go Up Go Down

Hello to all.
I'm new to the site, as of today.
Just got back from a walk in the woods near an old saw mill
that was closed in 1814.
I got a lot of silver signals with my White's Prizm III, but the trowel
I brought with me today couldn't keep up with the soil conditions.
I will be returning there with my spade soon.
I've owned the machine 3 yrs now and this seems to be the most strong & consistent silver reading I recall ever getting.
Does anyone feel it may be a false reading ?...it's an approx 1 mile walk so doubt if i make it back out today, but will ineed let you know what i find

Hi & welcome! A saw mill that closed in 1814? Sounds like a promising site to hunt. Good luck and let us know what the silver signal is. Sue

Welcome to the forums!! There is nothing loose, perhaps other than the mile walked there.  If its signal is strong and persistent then I would check it out!! It sure sounds worth it, and good luck and let us know if you find anything. Wink

Thanks to all for the welcomes.
I went back to the spot yesterday afternoon. It is a rather desolate area
so I doubt any one else detects there. I dug rather deep in the thick wet soil and still come up empty handed. The mosquitos were terrible...when spring arrives in Maine so do the bugs ! ..I left empty handed but am still getting a silver beep. I'm really thinking it's not coins, due to the depth. However; I haven't given up and plan to head back out in a few weeks when the bugs lighten up just a bit. I will keep you informed as to what this is. I did locate some old saw-mill implements, lifting hooks etc. happy hunting Rick

Welcome  Rick,  Waveing Waveing
Generally if it's a very deep signal the chances are it's a large target.
At worst a bit of machinery, at best a cash cache.   Laughing Detecting Detecting
Good luck n best wishes. Great Great

Hello Rick,

Welcome to our forum! Hope you will enjoy it!

Well, the silver reading could also be a large piece of aluminium. Youw ill have to dig it in order to know for sure. Please keep us posted.

Best wishes,

Christian

If you want to get rid of the bugs just use two or three fabric softner sheats.  Pin them to your back and your hat.  Keeps them away for two to three hours.  Avon's Skin-So-Soft is something else you can use.  Just git back out there!  Don't put it off!

Good luck swingin',
Shawn Detecting

High silver readings can indeed be something different than silver...

Could be large rusty iron alloy pieces.

Anyway, if you don't dig, you'll never know.

Welcome here.
