| You should celebrate that you are alone at the moment my friend. In Perth, at the beaches, there are dozens of metal detectorists these days all putting pressure on the beaches each Monday morning. At the local sand pit playgrounds, I see more and more the footprint patterns of a detectorist who has been there before me. I long for the good old days when I woudn't see another detectorist for months.
When can I fly up and join you on your quest? Is it legal for a tourist to enter Malaysia with a detector? Some countries forbid it.

Hey that's a great idea! It is not illegal as yet, but we do have some antiquities law, as we called it here, to protect certain sites and location. Need to obtain a permit first from the Museum Dept to go to those location.
For bringing in your metal detector it is not illegal, although you have to declare it at the customs upon entry. I suppose there is some duty to be paid, not sure the exact amount. When I bought mine they charge me at 10% the price of the machine. Either than that, no problem.
By the way am, staying on the eastern part of Malaysia, that is Kuching, Sarawak in Borneo Island, ever heard? There used to be a direct flight from Kuching to Perth, it has now discontinued. Now you have to fly to KL before taking a connecting flight over.
Just tell me when you want to fly in. Enjoy your cuppa.
