New member from North Carolina

I'm living in North Carolina, a transplant from the left coast and loveing it here. Have not been able up to now to prospect, but now that I'm retired, I have the time. I also have a Deuce and a half that can take me just about anywhere I point it. I supose my dream exploration would be to find, or re- find the Keekoweef cavern that so much mystery surrounds.

Welcome NC. I did some beach prospecting several years ago at onslow beach. tried the backwoods way too many copperheads for me.

Well the thing about Keekoweef is: Its said that in the Death Valley area in the Panamint Mts. on the east facing side (I believe) that there was a discovery by Indians then later by prospectors, a couple guys found a old mine and then droping through the bottom in an accident, they came upon a cavern system that is an underground cavern/river that eventually all underground, empties into the pacific. In this cavern system was the river, and along the banks were ledges. On the ledges over milinea, were sand deposits which were so rich in gold dust that a huge fortune existed for who ever was to find this sand and bring it out. Also that this was partially an undergroung civilization lost city type of thing. The informations can be found in 'Mysteries of the Mojave' by Branton I think. At any rate if you were to go online and search 'Mysteries of the Mojave' you would find some very interesting reading about some very mysterious stuff. It has all but been lost over time, and is one of thise stories one would get a couple of friends and make a week adventure out of looking for the clues which are said to still be there, at the top most parts of the Panamint mtn. range. Arches in the rock formations that are said to be interances from above. The cavern part was said to be explored for 20 some odd miles in length, mabe more. At any rate its an adventure for late fall through early spring only with the temps riseing to lethal in the summer.Well after reading a bit more on some interesting articles by people who live in the area and a certain guy and group out of Las Vegas the storie gets a fiew too many holes in it. As though its kept alive for the enticement of 'Green' prospectors or hobby types who are always thinking their going to find the motherload this 'weekend' Turns out alot of the area is staked with claims that keep much enthusiasin quashed. the certain guy friom Las Vegas is said to be a little nefarious too. so mabe its just a legend better suited for the magazines than actual hunting.
