Johnboy, thanks for the welcome, I recall a but of ancient treasure found there by a farmer some time ago, still treasure to be found most anywhere I guess  Smiley

Thanks for the welcome Poptop, I remember Kansas, hitching down the west end on the escarpment in the rain with a cold wind coming down off the rockies, beautiful view. As to my best day sniping, pulled a couple 1/4 ounce nuggets out of a small hole on the Pinto Creek east of here a way, girlfriend got a hold of them and I never saw or heard from them again LOL

G'Day Nickel, thanks for the welcome, you wouldn't be the guy that had 1100 ounces on a table on youtube? Sure was a beautiful sight, I spent 10 days in Brisbane and Sydney back in '05, sure like it there, always wanted to go sniping there.

Howdy Bitburg, thanks for the welcome, was just out to the creek, got almost 2 inches of rain last couple days, creekbed is shiny with the wet, but no running water. Until I get my detector fixed, might pan out some black sands for melting, not sure their content here tho, and I'm in Mayer, it's pretty tame here, a few holes, some trenches, and a lot of overburden. But, as Coronado reported, as I recall, he hadn't found Cibola, but he had found the next best thing, 'a place to look for it'  Smiley

Call me BA, everyone else does...and it's a bit easier on the fingers.    While you're out there looking for gold flakes, keep your eyes open for old trade tokens.  Some of those tokens from the Mayer area can bring a pretty penny on the collectors market.

Thanks for the welcome Mick, I wish I'd had more time to explore when I was there, but I sure enjoyed what little I saw, mostly Brisbane proper, and Sydney harbour, Manly beach, and out past Narrabeen to the beaches there.

BA, thanks, I did a search on the tokens, found a few interesting pages

Welcome GW. I am from Phoenix. I have a prospecting pal up in your town name of Joe Mann. We both belong to the Roadrunner Prospector Club. The club has quite a few claims on the Big Bug. Also on Black Canyon Creek, Wolf Creek, Turkey Creek, Little Wolf Creek and Poland Creek as well. Also BA and I belong to the same metal detecting club in Phoenix. Hope you don't move to California too soon, and you get a chance to know Arizona.

Dusty Carl

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Howdy Carl, thanks for the welcome. I was in Phoenix most of 35 years, prospected from Pinto creek out by Globe to the Kingman area, been on the Black Canyon claims, Wolf creek, Turkey creek, all through that area, worked the Climax mine by Wilhoit, and the Hassayampa by Cherry creek. Was a Roadrunner member for a while too, they got some pretty cool claims. I'm across from the Circle K here in the morning shadow of that big stack, probably going to try to make a 'rocket forge' and melt black sand from Big Bug until I can get my detector fixed, if it can be fixed. But the salmon, mushrooms, and gold on the Smith river in NoCal have my attention, and the beach gold is pretty easy to get from the black sands there too, from just north of Eureka up the coast to nearly Coos Bay Oregon.

You are most welcome.  If you want, I can look at that detector for you and give you an idea as to what might be wrong with it, next time I come up there. Probably in a week or two. Waiting for my pal Joe to get done with all is holiday visitors. I am an electronics technician of 50 years (retired now) and build my own detectors, and wind my own coils. It's a fun hobby.

Dusty, thank you, I'd like you to have a look at it when you get up here. I've been reading about this detector, and it's rated pretty high by the guys that tested it, and I really don't know how to use it right. I'll be going by their instructions, and the manual instructions too, see what happens.
