Hello all!

My first post to the forum and I wanted to say hi to everyone.  I live in New Mexico and spend all the time I can detecting and hunting for meteorites.  I have been reading posts on this forum for quite some time and have enjoyed spending time here.  Hope to communicate with many of you in the future.

A good friend and I went out for an adventure last Sat.  It was raining when we arrived at our destination but of course we decided to detect and hunt for both meteorites and any other treasures that were just waiting for us to swing over!  We got soaked but we did not give up.  We found 10 siderite meteorites, 3 pallasite meteorites a ring and a religious metal dated 1830.  I am sure glad we stayed out and braved the rain!  We were soaked but very happy with our finds for the day.

Thanks all!

Ironman

Homefire..... thanks for the welcome.  I am from the Albuquerque area. I was just in Hillsboro on Friday.  I don't think that is to far fro Deming.  It sure looks like a good area to detect for Gold Nuggets.  I should have thrown my detector in the trunk.

Shawn..... thanks!  The meteorites are worth money.  I have kept most of the ones I have found.  To me it's amazing that they are an average age of 2.5 billion years old!  Not to mention where they come from.  My detector screams when I swing over one. With experience with my GMT I can now tell what is a meteorite or if it is something else.  Except for the freaking foil, it fools me every time!

The metal ring I believe belonged to one of the soldiers who fought here during the civil war.  The metal I also believe is from one of the New Mexico volunteer soldiers during the same period.  All the finds were in a wooded area.

Capnrich, Thank you.  More treasures await us all!  We just have to swing over a target with an even better find at the bottom of the hole!

Christian, thanks for the kudos and the nice welcome

Best regards

Welcome to the forum.

I'm glad to read a thread about meteorites, because I have always been interested in them.

I find questionable stones on ocean beaches, here in Europe, and recently acquired a detector that has a "mineral" stand ideal to prospect for meteorites.

Another great part of our beautiful hobby !  Wink
