Waveing  Well I did it ! I decided on a detector. No it's not one of those facy ones but it isn't a piece of junk either, anyway it arrived by fed express and was on my poarch when I got home. I quickly put it together, plugged in the head phones, and proceded out my back door. I have about 3/4 of an acre in my back yard and have been told that the property /subdivision I live in was the site of some civil war activity. Sure enough just 10 feet from my back steps, swinging my detector back and forth was an unmistakable blip. I thought to my self, now wouldn't be something to find a treasure my first try just minutes after turning it on. I got on my knees, took out my handy entrenching tool( thats a small colapsable shovel to you non Marine Corp types.)  I did it I found my first treasure it was old, years and years old !  It had to be at least.......... 17 years old because my house was built 17 years ago and I knew I hadn't lost this treasure. I got to my feet and took my treasure into the house to show it to my wife, all the while using my fingers to brush, scrape the dirt from it. My wife looked at it intently for a few minutes and asked... WHAT IS IT?  That was it. I smiled at her proudly and with a knowing smirk on my face proclaimed..... I don't know. At that I began to use two pairs of plyers. slowly I was able to twist, bend and pull the piece of metal that had been flattened by time ,  and perhaps a foot or two, to its original shape. There on the bottom was a clue, some words that I couldn't quite make out.  More scrubbing, this time with water. Finally there it was. It's secret given up after all these years. I handed it to my wife to do the honors and read aloud those words emboised so long ago for all to see. She looked at me for a moment, cleared her throat and read those lost words. "two thirds cup" I had discovered a small metal aluminum measuring cup complete with a metal tab that could be used to hang it up and to hold onto. It now is displayed in my study on the shelf that I had cleared to show off my treasure finds. I was able to bend it back to about it's original shape. Yep, My first treasure, and I'm proud of it. I had fun finding it. the anticipation and excitment  of what it could be, what it might be. who knows what my next search might turn up. Yeah I'm hooked and I'm looking forward to future hunt's. Seriously I feel confident that I am going to find some very interesting things. Life is good!
