Hello Daryl!

Welcome to our forum! I had been to Aucklanda couple of years ago. A great city and great country! It was really good to travel all around New Zeland but for our very old and lame camper. We would cause huge traffic behind us when driving up hills at snail speed Smiley

What are you mainly hunting for in New Zeland? Are there also any Maori relics to be found?

Best wishes,

Christian

Go Up Go Down

thank you christian.. where to start? im mainly interested in metal detecting, have been for years back in england.
here tho, its more like escapism from work. nothing to find here really other than sinkers & rings or rubbish. lol theres no history like in the uk.
i was out recently on a local beach when an old bloke came over & started picking my brains about the machine. eventually he asked if i had a card & would i go on a site & locate some pipes for the so the digger wouldnt rip them up. depth came into it & i asked ..have you tried dowseing? he had no idea what i was on about.  anyway, that started me off.
going back to when i was a kid,we had ago & it seemed to work. but parents thought we were messing. (we had seen dowsing on the tv) only i knew the truth.
never thought about it again untill about 20years later when i was working on the roads, & an engineer was trying to find some deep pipwork, i told a digger driver i'd have ago with some welding rods. boy did they take the pee. i had ago at teabreak when no one was around, apart fron a komatsu duck driver. i made some marks in the muck just larking about. the next week, the duck driver was called on to dig the site. no pipes were found...untill they extended the trench & dug up the marks we mad while larking around. i wasnt there to whitness it, the driver told me about it in the pub the next night.
that talk with the man on the beach, plus what i did with the digger driver years ago, got me thinking again.
also had another exp. where my rods crossed before a known drain position as we were about to dig.
when we dug, we came across heavy duty power cables.
that confused me. i thought rods were for finding water. which lead me to your sight to help me to find out how to start. is there a basic step by step anywhere? one for rods & one for pendulums?b also to find out how to discriminate. cheers daryl
