The Tesoro Lobo Super Traq works well in the heavily mineralized soils of Arizona and eastern California.  I expect it would work well where you are at also.   Also check out Garrett's AT-Gold and the Fisher Gold Bugs.  If your budget allows it, look at the Minelab line of detectors.

Greetings and welcome from the soggy and snowy Pacific NW in Washington State.
There is tons of information on this forum so keep looking and asking!   Shocked
I started with an inexpensive MD myself, but after I was hooked finding my first silver, oh well.
The best suggestion I can make for a beginner is to learn your MD, review the documentation, and keep records.
