Hi !

I'm now considering to buy an oscilloscope for the construction of a PI (Pulse Induction) metal detector.   I must stress that I have no knowledge at all in electronics, but I'm a fast learner and very passionnate about this new field

My question is :    will any oscilloscope work for testing the home made coil ?  I have the possibility to buy this one (Hameg HM203-7), do you think it's enough ?

I suppose I need the probes too (two of them, right ?)

Hope to hear from you guys, and get as much info as possible

Thanks for your help, any suggestion is welcome

Pepino

Yes that Scope would be quite suitable for the job.  A scope is not really a necessity for building a coil but most handy in the set up of timing and delay settings.

If it does not come with probes cheap but serviceable probes can be had from places like BangGood.

Another Cheap and Most handy bit of test gear is a LCR (Inductance,Capacitance and Resistance) Meter.  I purchased one some what like this and I find my self using it quite often.  All of this can be tested via O Scope once you learn how but these are super handy toys.

ok, thanks for your quick answer

I've done a bit of research and found this item on several web sites (including Banggood), it seems to do the job for measuring inductance, but I would like you to confirm it :

LCR mètre Palm Taille UA6243L (resistence, capacité, Inductance, Transistor Test)

Would it be enough for assessing the coil ?     Keep in mind that the PI is the Surf PI 1.2 (I purchased an already-made electronic circuit, no soldering/assembly necessary)

Regards

An LCR meter is not an oscilloscope. You have looked up a useful but unrelated tester.
