I'm looking to purchase an easy to use, accurate gold detector. The different web articles point to the Garrett AT pro, Fisher gold bug pro 2, Mine lab equinox 800. Does anyone have an opinion on what might be a good way to go.

Asking your self a few questions.

Self, What sort of situations will I be hunting and using said detector ?

Do I want a Dedicated Gold Machine or a Some What GP machine that is also fare at locating Gold ?

All Metal detectors can and do locate gold but the higher the Freq of operation the smaller the gold they can locate.

Like the AT Gold, 18Khz ? Would have a way better chance of locating Smaller gold then your normal Coin machines running around 6 -7 Khz.

Something like a Whites GMT running 48Khz can find the bug poop size of gold but somewhat worthless at coin hunting ?

What sort of Gold do I have available or chances of.

Nuggets ?

Smallish ?

GP, General Purpose ?

That being said of the machines you've listed I my self would opt for the Fisher.  Sweet Frequency 19Khz.

I'm not keen of Minelab for personal reasons. I simply do not like the way the company operates but they make a some of the best gold machines on the planet. The Eqinox runs good on small gold and the bug poop.  20 and 40Khz.   The way the batteries are used somewhat SUCKS. Proprietary Set Up. More then one failure point.
