I started metal detecting back in the 1970s but in recent years was limited to hitting the beach for a week in the summer. Then one of my "legacy" detectors (a White's 5900 DI Pro) turned up a 14.5 gram platinum band and a 10k band which paid for a modern detector  and a few other goodies. My local club is very active and I'm hoping  to have another good find or two this year.

I bought a Teknetics Patriot (basically a Fisher F70 in a different case), which I am still learning - quite a difference from my old analog detectors.  If I can figure out how to post a photo I will post one of the finds from that trip, which included the platinum band, the 10k band, a small silver ring, numerous fishing sinkers, several .50 caliber bullets, and a handful of modern coins. The shark tooth was an eyeball find during and early morning walk with my wife.

The cradle of the Civil War. I found a matched set of Colt 45s back in the early 1970s in Northern Georgia. They were in operating condition having been wrapped in oilcloth before they were hastily (obvious by looking at the site) coverd under sand and debris.

These are the finds ( other than the stinkers and bullets) that financed my new detector.
