I'm always looking for a good place to hunt for gold when I visit friends and family around the country. In March I plan to visit family not far from the Uwharrie National Forest. I've done lots of research and know the park's restrictions. I also read about gold, still in the quartz, laying on the ground in the area of Buck Mtn. I'd love to hear from anyone that is familiar with this area. Mapquest doesn't show the quartz outcrop so I don't know which side of the mountain to search. Also, I'd like to know if a car is able to travel to the top of that mountain or just 4-wheel drive vehicles. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from New Mexico.

You all have Gem Stones up there too!

You may want to check out the Claim Status on the area you want to work.

There are some Mineral Leases.

Thanks for the links. I've already seen those and I've been in the forest. Parts are privately owned. The park doesn't allow mechanized equipment or metal detectors but they allow you to pan anywhere in the National Forest. There is an area along the highway that is just outside the National Forest and the posting says you can use a dredge there. I only have the Sand 'n Gold suction tube and a mini sluice. Lots of minerals and gems in NC. It's the gold I'm searching for.
Thanks!
