Of course it was faked. Even landing in water would cause lots of physical damage to a human being but the movie is still an incredible piece of work. They probably used a dummy making several tries and then cut away after a success. Replace the dummy with a guy in a wetsuit and helmet and you have a wrap.

Still, a brilliant piece of footage which causes you to gasp when you first see it.
