Go Up Go Down

I have thought that if a person was lucky enough to come across a stash of gold or silver bars or something you can?t just go to the ?Cash for Treasure" Store?(laughs)? How would a person make nuggets that are un-uniform and as close to how they would look in nature for an easier sale? I was thinking if you poured the molten gold into cold water it would cause them to separate and cool in a random way looking more like nuggets. This would hope to avoid any unnecessary questions from the buyer or government if someone already had a claim. I have never poured molten metal into water so don?t know how it would work. I have seen it done with copper and thinking it should work the same, yes?

Pour it into very warm oil instead. Cold water may cause an explosive vaporization which could make gold flakes rather than random looking nuggets.

Why not pour it into your own ingots? Just tell the buyer the truth rather than try to fool them. Tell them the ingot is of unknown purity since it was mixed from unknown sources. You can easily have the ingot assayed and stamped by a gold buyer. There's no need to make fake nuggets. Use fishing weight molds which are designed for keeping scrap lead in ingots.

The explosion factor is what I was wondering about as I am not a metallurgist but have some sense of hot and cold relations. This was something I heard once and was curious about. Didn?t really think about just making your ingots as I have never had anything analyzed, so don?t know how many questions are asked or what is reported to government. Not wanting to fool anyone just keeps the vultures at bay including the government. I guess if it is a reputable place they don?t ask a lot of questions just tell you what you need to know. Thnx

What your talking about could be construed as fraud.

Any Gold Ingots you come across are going to be 99.o % at least unless they are old Spanish treasure type.

All gold has a Signature in make up.

Gold I pan here In New Mexico is around 95% Au, 2-3% Ag, 1-2% Cu and balance Other.

Your best would be to Blurk it into Ingots and sell as scrap.

Some gold from Australia is weird,   Can be up to 99%!!!!!   Must have something to do with em walking Upside down all the time.

Most Natral Gold Falls some place between 91 and 98% Pure.

onion;

It would probably be too uniform, lead shot used to be made that way, just pour it from enough height and it forms spheres, which must be near to solidifying, and do so as soon as it hits the water. If you pour it too hot, and/or too low, it just splatters much like if you poured it on a cement floor. It doesn't have time to form spheres, when dropped too low and when too hot, it won't hold shape.

Try lost wax molding.... you have to get some books and buy a small spinner. Wise

You sure you want to do this?  Funny

I can see now how that could be construed as fraud  Shocked. I hadn?t thought about it that way. This all started with a friend of mine and I talking over beers and the what if factor should we ever find anything, be it already cast or just nuggets and what to do with it. So what is the best thing to do when you have question? Why post it of course.  Thnx for the feed back.

I've seen home made Nuggets for sale at the Flea market before.

They were obviouly man made!   Great

If I ever came accross a find of Ingots, I really don't know what I would do.

These days, I think you would be good to Shut Up and Deal with it.   The Gov would find a way to end up with it some how!

Agreed, It?s fun to look for and think about though. we wouldn?t really know what to do either as the Gov always seems to be there with their hand out which is how the "what if" came about. Keeping the mouth shut and dealing with it seems to be the only option these days if it ever happens. They should use the mass amounts they already have to bail this country out, and finance their wars and healthcare instead of putting it on the tax payer. Probably wouldn?t even make a dent in their stash. But that?s just crazy talk to them.  Cheesy

It's not fraud if you don't mark the gold ingots. There's no law on earth that disallows the refining of gold into ingots. And we all wear Velcro(tm) on our shoes down here or we'd fall off.
