Although I did come out of the site with a thermometer the real prize was this toothpick dispenser. Patent date 1874.
My friend missed it by not checking some covey holes built into the wall.
I did and this was the prize I walked out with.

That's cool - brings back memories to me as my grandparents had one of those. I'd forgotten about it 'til now. Congrats on a nice find. Sue

that's a neat toothpick dispenser.   Looks a bit like woody woodpecker.

Thanks you guys the add says age 40s-50s.
Patent date on bottom would suggest much older.
My great grandmother had one when I was child, she said it was old back then.
I think I was about 9 or 10 at the time. I was born Oct 5, 51.

it's  entirely possible that it could have been made for a whole lot of years, so both your guess and the ad could be correct.

This is entirely true, there are some differences......
mine has a crest and the one in the link does not.

Thanks for your input. Till next time.

Out4gold

I used US Patent office information to retreive date of patent issue. Even if the patent was issued in 1874 you guys are correct it may be just a variation of this same one Seldom's link shows that was produced for many years.

I run into this a lot at the shop, someone comes in with a price that they found a picture of in a price guide and its worth 500 bucks. We have to bust their bubble 90% of the time and tell them that the one in the book is from 1800 made in the US and rare, they have one made in China or Japan in the 1940's or 50's and is worth 8 dollars. Yes I have been cussed out on several occasions. Looks like Out4 have the good one and the ad is the reproduction  Good find Out4Gold
