Hi sue, the coin in the middle pic is a modern aussie 5 cent coin, it's the smallest coin we have here, just used it to show how small the baby nugget was lol.

The dog is my mate "rusty" he's looking a bit sly because he just stole my lunch from the vehicle in the background.

The silver coins all came from the one hole, they date from the 1940's &50's, when i first dug em up i thought they were gold !, but after a clean the silver emerged.

Cheers   Steve

I agree, Johnlaw - beautiful countryside. I really like that picture. Steve, is that stream where you found the gold? Now I realize #2 is a shot into a pan - that shiny coin distracted my attention. Sue

Ah, the Outback. Sort of hard to define really. In fact, Australia is about the same size as the Continental USA and has major cities along the sea coast. The only major city in the middle is Alice Springs near Ayer's Rock or Uluru, as it is now alternately called. Both are OK. The outback is all the rest of the land aside from the major cities along the coast and Alice Springs. No kidding. If you say you want to go to the Outback to an Australian, they'll sort of look at you and wait for the rest of the joke.

I live in Western Australia and the Outback here in WA covers around 70% of the total land area. Western Australia is almost as big as Texas and Alaska combined. If you haven't got a glimmering of what Outback is yet, read this post again until it hits home. Compare it to saying that you want to go to an island in the Pacific Ocean.

Hi GD....Thanks for your input....When I say Outback I'm refering to places in your land where there are vast open spaces without many inhabitants. I see you live just west of Victoria desert. Most of what I've seen has been on TV specials and books.  I love the wilderness areas.....

My flyspeck of a house is within 20 minutes of areas that can be called the Outback. I take my dog for a walk every day in bushland near our house where he encounters creatures of all description believing I put them there for his enjoyment. For the most part, they go on in peace after he sniffs them but occasionally they take exception to his very presence and he comes back to tell me all about it.

The Australian Outback is just too huge a place to say something like, "He's in the Outback," and having the other person understand where he is. Here, we say, "He's going out to Bendigo." The reply? "Outback?" The answer. "Yep, until he gets tired and comes to town."
