Found this about 15 inches deep Saturday

The pictures don't do this spoon justice at all but it is actually shinny as i haven't even cleaned it and on the back of the stem handle has writted " NICKEL-SILVER"

Congratulations! I think you can best clean it using lemon juice. It should shine as new afterwards!

Best wishes,

Christian

Nice old spoon you have there. Must have rung like the Liberty Bell in your headphones.

Have you looked up the composition of the alloy known as nickel silver? It's a corrosion resistant alloy of copper, zinc and nickel. Great stuff for model railroad tracks as it hardly ever needs cleaning. Bury it, and it gets that lovely patina from the ground moisture. Keep it relatively dry and it stays shiny (nearly) forever.

Sadly, not silver at all. Don't feel bad. The first Nickel Silver item I found many years ago was the mouthpiece to a referee's whistle marked with the NS marking. Found out it was Nickel Silver and what it was made of from a buyer of precious metals. Way off the radar on that one. Heavy, though, and polished up nicely.

Well its good to know. I thank ya for the info. Kinda a bummer as i'm wanting to save up with some of my sacrificial finds to fund for a underwater metal detector as i live on the second largest lake in my state it be nice to not have to take a long drive to go to a spot and nice on hot days and not melt from the sun. Appreciate the knowledge and info!
