agree with you on both counts....but just like the Nazis, this is a part of our history we can't afford to forget.   (you really know you're headed in a bad way when folks deny the associated horrors and glorify the perpetrators of the horror).

Since you are not from the US, it could very easily be one of our less than stellar organizations that you are not familiar with.

KKK =  Klu Klux Klan.....an organization which no matter what its actual origins may have been (probably the most famous early member of the KKK was confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest who lately repudiate the Klan and actively campaigned against it) has a well-deserved historic reputation for virulent and open racism.   Rightly or wrongly (and probably mostly rightly), the Klan gets blamed for most of the violent or terroristic anti-negro, anti-catholic, anti-jew, etc, etc, activity from 1867 through at least the mid to late 1960's.
