Go Up Go Down

Awesome post Mark, and i liked everyone's feedback.  makes me want to go back out to Wendover, Nevada about two hours away from me.  they have all the old hangars from WW2 still out there and keep them in fairly good shape.  that's where they did all the practice bombing for the atomic bomb before it was dropped on Japan.  the last time i was out there was at an airshow.  my buddy and I flew an old open cockpit PT-17 Stearman up there and hung out for the weekend.  when we left we were just about to take off, and had a B-25 take off right before us.  as soon as he lifted off he called in a Mayday and started back around.  I don't know what was wrong with his bird but he landed and cleared the runway and we took off and had a great time flying back towards Salt Lake.  I love aviation history, thanks everyone

I am in Alpine and would like to know if you received permission from the landowner to hunt on this property? I drove by today and checked it all out but didn't know if I should commit to going on the property. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just got into detecting and and dying to check this old airport out.

Thanks.

Geolobo, Echevarria Field is owned by the City of Wickenburg.  It is currently used by one or more Radio Controlled aircraft clubs.  You would need to check with the city offices regarding permission to hunt although I can find nothing in the City Ordinances to prevent metal detecting.

Thanks for the quick reply. I often travel during the summer and may check it out if I get out that way. I am trying to inquire about one of the other posts about the old Marfa Airport. Thanks again.

You would first need to decide which of the Marfa airfields you were interested in before you could determine it's ownership status.  If you're looking for the original airport which became Marfa Auxiliary 7, getting permission to hunt will be tough since it is now under a golf course.   But the others, who knows.
