Go Up Go Down

Hello everyone,  It has been a long time since I was here, we bought a home in Eugene so I have been quite busy with that. Before we bought the place the guys who worked on it  made the yard what you call low maintenance, lost of gravel and barkomulch. I was walking around the yard one day and was looking at the gravel, I picked up a couple of Carnelian agates right there, later on the wife was out walking the dog and found 2 more, this is just regular river gravel they put in. My favorite Agate is one about thumb size with a crystalline center , it is a very dark orange outside and clear crystalline center, it is very pretty. I might have it made into a necklace for the wife. If I get the chance I will post some pics of what we found in our own front yard, so far I haven't seen anymore. I also found a very dark green stone, triangular in shape and very very shiny as if someone had already polished it. I will take this stone to Eugene Lapidary and have them tell me what it is. I will let you know if it is anything or not. Happy hunting everyone, remember this year has been full of hard rains and heavy snows in the mountains, there will be more gold washed out now than in years before, be very careful out on your hunts.  Digger

You would be surprised with the stuff we paid $50.00 a truck load to do the road here.

The Rock company called it Strait River Run, meaning it was just taken from the Ancient River bed and classified to size .

It's loaded with Hematite, Jasper and other cool stuff.

At one time the Mountins here were twice as tall as they are now.

All this sand came from some place.

 Shocked Shocked

Wow that is great did you get to plunder any , and was any of it good stuff?  I see you are from Demming , are there a lot of good prospecting spots there for you?  I have a cousin that lives outside Pheonix Az  and he dosen't do any gem hunting or prospecting, if I lived there I would never be home. I would be out most all the time detecting.  Happy Hunting Detecting

It's all out her in the driveway and road.     Walking to the mail 2 tenths of a mile is a adventure.

Just keep looking down.

Points, bullets and other artifacts show up in river gravel. Lately I found what I believe to be an arrow shaper in gravel under my down spout.

Here is a picture of the possible "arrow scraper" I found in the gravel under the downspout of my house. Its a lousy picture but you can see the curved notch that fit the shaft of the arrow. The rock is pink quartzite, common in the Appalachians and rarely as pebbles, down here in Florida. It does not ordinarily fracture with a clean conchoidal fracture (

Where are you at in florida? We used to live in Panama City, not the beach, the eastern side. My grocery bill was very small there as I caught most of the meat we ate. I used to catch all kinds of seafood, crab ,lobster, shrimp, scallops, oysters , and all kinds of fish. Thanks for sharing the pic, it looks like you called it right, looks like a scraper to me also.  Do you do any beach hunting??

Digger, I'm about 30 miles from the coast north of Tampa. I get over to the beach at least once a month. I haven't had much luck there because I don't have the equipment for it. The ACE 250 is a little weak in the water and my fisher is useless. You need a waterproof machine for getting serious with beach hunting.  I'm going to buy a salt water machine soon and get serious about it. I've been hunting old house sites along the early railroads of Central Florida. The problem is these people were poor and poor people don't have the valuables to lose. The sand is another problem. coins sink rapidly in it and it attenuates the detector's depth when it is dry.  The best treasure comes from behind the luxury hotels along the beach. I've seen $20,000 worth of jewelry found in one month at our club meeting. One month,  A gold cross and chain appraised at $15,000, 2 rings one a single stone about 3 carats and the other a wedding ring of more than a carat. The 'professional' hunters come up with rings every month.  Detecting
