Anybody out there near the towns of Canyonville, Riddle, or Glendale Oregon?  We have a half section of claims with an old town site on it.  I myself, have found coins from the Ching Dynasty, 1772-1778, or something like that.  Some nuggets, half a Pennyweight and smaller, modern coins, and lots and lots of RR stuff.

I'm not near any of those towns. I'm from Kentucky.

Curious though what is " half section of claims with an old town site on it "

sounds interesting?

Trying to learn more is all.

Thanks

1/2 section!   That's a 1/2 of a square mile.

Who owns the claims?

A mineral claim is just that, you claim the mineral rights on open land, usually BLM land.
We have two claims.  Each person is allowed 20 acres per claim, and if they band together, 8 people maximum, 8 times 20 = 160 acres per association claim.  2 claims of 160 acres each = 320 acres, or one half of a square mile.
The claim is partially mine, and seven others.  The townsite on the mineral claim is incidental, but it has a dump that was last used in the 1950's.  There is also an ancient orchard.
We preserve the townsite, and when we are finished mining, we leave the area cleaner, the plants healthier, and the destruction of so called Environmentalists cleaned up.
Miners are not the evil people that the media makes us out to be.  We are stewards of the land.  We spend a lot of time in the forest, and we do what we can to protect it.  This includes cleaning up the messes of the so called Environmentalists.
Fill in your holes, and leave it cleaner than you found it.
I hope that helped.

Hello Miner79r and  Welcome to our Great Forum !!

It is a nice area of I-5 to travel through the 7-Feathers [Umpqua] country . A couple times a year I stop for some good food and cheap gas across from the Casino at Canyonville  !!

Some really great information you gave us about BLM claims , Thanks again for joining us and keep us posted on your finds .
So the Chinese where there before Lewis and Clark ? It is very possible or maybe the Chinese worked on the 1st railroads in Oregon too .

Best Regards..............Eugene

All I was trying to ask, rather clumsily, whether he was inviting us to buy into one the associations or come on down, in my case, and have a go at it.  Who knows it might worth ones while to buy in, it would all depend on the cost.
