Well let me try to clear this up a bit .  When you use a small battery  , one that is only capable of delivering a small quantity of  Mili amps  , you will notice that in a little while the coil does not get enough power because the battery has drained so much power that the remainder is still working but not at full force .  ( more or less like too small a battery in your camera )  . If you use a larger  ( higher capacity ) battery it takes along time for the  mili - amps to go lower . Therefor your detector works longer at full force  ,  and not at a lower capacity because most of the amps have drained out .  Cornelius
