and you will see the schematic for the Sandbank PI metal detector by P.J.Wales .  This is a simple detector which could be build by just about anybody . If you wanrt to build it let me know because the transformer T1 is very hard to be found , however you can do without it .  Transistors  Tr5 and Tr 6 have alternatives  .  Cornelius

Geotech
has quite a few more Projects.
I am working on a "Microcontroller PI Treasure Hunter" (from 1994), also called "Stuart II".

Geotech does not have their old forum any more . Carl was a hell of a guy and had a lot of good projects . I am far ahead of the simple PI detectors but I thought it would be a nice project for newcommers . Sorry if I offended you . Regards  Cornelius

If you are far ahead of the simple PI detectors - which is the best ?

Sauerkraut , with some modifications the DBP 2010 is the best PI metal detector ( with discrimination ) I ever built . I built two units to try out the modifications . It is not a simple detector but certainly worth building it .   Coils are simple to make .   I have one Probe and three different size coils . The largest coil is 1 Meter  X 1 Meter . This large coil will detect a large metal object ( like a cannon ) at 20 Ft depth .  Regards  Cornelius

I didnt see this one yet, the Schematics and stuff are a bit rare.
20 ft sure is long Range, but i wont dig that deep anyway.
A Shovel wont be efficient for that.

No  Sauerkraut nobody in his right mind would dig a hole 20Ft deep .  I certainly w?uld not ! . The reason this detector is helpfull is when you are searching for shipwrecks . A cannon may be quite deep under the sand  . That is the place I use the big coil . It has helped me in Florida in discovering a Spanish wreck .  Regards  Cornelius

You are so right about that one  Outback . That is why you should never detect along the Oregon trail .  Cornelius
