Hi to everyone at THunting.

I built the P.W Sandbanks detector many years ago and found it to be quite good. Had a few problems with 709 ic "hanging up" but i recall adding a small value cap ( 47pF ) across inputs helped.

Regards

Hello Ron . Just wondering if you bought the kit or built it from scratch ? I always wondered what numbers were stamped on the adjustable inductor T-1 . It was the Toko 87bx135 . Or the correct inductance and DC resistance . I know there is a modification that eliminates the coil , but sometimes we never give up on finding information about rare original parts  .
Thanks for posting about this "Old PI Project"

Hi Eugene

It was purchased as a kit from either Ambit International or Cirkit Electronics.
I no longer have this detector so unfortunatly i cannot help with the inductor details.
I did however see an updated version of this detector in an article on the net , i'll find
the article out for you.

Regards

Ron

Hi Eugene

I found the modified Sandbanks article , it uses an ICL 7660 chip to generate the 12 volt line

Thank-You Ron , I will check the link and maybe later we will find out more about the mysterious inductor that was discontinued !! I know Cornelius was the first to post an alternate circuit a few years back , But I still want to know the original inductance value of T-1.
Regards.........Eugene

I have  the original part but the number does not correlate to anything out there.

If some one can test it I will send it to them.   Origanal to be returned. Wise

Hello,

I built this as a project in 1980 . Great machine . I still have this detector and powered up this up this weekend to have go. I must say that it gives good depth 6-7 inch on 10p coin very sensitive to copper coins but picks up rusty nails and good with cutting out all the alumin foil . I need to see if the modifications have been done to my mancine . All the parts were purchase from Cirkit .

If this could descriminate the rust objects this would be an excellent base.

Cheers
