I think the 1 at the end of E-176 1 is refering to the quantity of that transistor, correct me if I'm wrong.

One the Schematic its listed as E176....

On the Parts list its listed as E1761

I'm looking for the complement of the 2n3918 that would work.

E176 is a fet channel P.You can replace with these fet channel P : 2N5460,62,63,64,65, 2N3820

this FET  P works as a variable resistor in the integrated 555 and acts as a variable frequency oscillator according to the voltage

Al . Tomorrow I will post a complete Sandbanks PI detector to you . No use building the thing since I had one laying around . You should receive it in about one week  ( it is up to the postal service ! ) . Read the letters I enclosed and be careful with your power hook-up .It is better to use some heavier batteries  ( instead of the regular 9v batteries ) . The only thing you have to do is make the coil . That coil is  one with a diameter of 200 mm  , the cu enamelled wire to use is  0.4 mm  (26 s.w.g. )  , the amount of windings are 20 .   you can start making this coil so you are ready when you receive my package .    Cornelius

Build the coil as Cornelius states.

Once you get it up and runing I will show you how to make it Hot on gold and speed things up.

This is all in the write Up but between lines.

Thanks Homefire for helping Al out  . I am sometimes too bussy . Explain to him that he can make a coil of lesser diameter but that he has to increase the amount of windings  ( to get the right resistance as with the regular coin ) . Of course he can reach deeper targets by using this smaller diameter coil. Thanks again   Cornelius

The original write up was lacking on the coil.

I think I used 20 swg 2oo MM and 2o windings. It worked quite well.  That is what was supplied in the kit I used and the one I just sold.

Let him get it working first.
