I finally finished the coil connection, Cornelius. I'm not sure what sound I'm supposed to be listening for, I do hear a high pitched sound , but no clicking sound ? Undecided

Ali , it is the high pitched  sound you want .  Now ..... move the coil away from any target and turn the sound down untill you can barely hear it  ( or not at all anymore )  . Now ...... hold a target under the coil and see if it gives you the high pitched sound again . When you are using the detector always set the sensitivity ( the big knob ) in the position that you can barely hear the sound  . Now you are ready to detect . A PI detector will give you a high pitched sound every time . Have fun .  Cornelius  ( ps  let me know if you got it now )

Cornelius  I was play around with the detector,it puts out the High pitch sound, I can turn the volume down ,but when I try and adjust the Sensitivity knob it doesn't seem to do anything.
Also I was looking at the PCB layout and it appears as though there is a empty socket for IC3 shown in the schematic. I have enclosed a picture of the PCB you sent me with the empty socket.

Aliman the detector was in perfect working condition when I sent it to you .  IC 3 is not used anymore since you are now using a second  9V battery  . I hope you did not do any dammage to the cicuit .   Cornelius

Thanks for clearing up the IC3 mystery, Cornelius. I'm sure it's working OK, I'm probably not using it correctly.
Should turning the sensitivity knob have a noticeable effect on the high pitch sound. ?
or maybe I need better batteries ?
Or maybe I haven't wound the coil properly ?
Sorry to to bug you Cornelius

Ali , turning the sens knob to the left  ( if it is still hoocked up the way it was ) should make the sound disappear  . Turning the knob to the right should start the sound again . If it just is starting ( without a target under the coil  ) it is set for starting your search .  If you manually hold a piece of metal under the coil the sound should start right awasy .  If you have  a sound the batteries are OK . The coil is so simple that you cannot make any error . You hear a high pitched tone because the pulses are so close together that to the human ear the sound as a single tone .  Are you sure you are out of reach of a target ? Maybe rebars in a concrete floor ?   If you have disconnected anything while building it in your new housing did you re-connect it the right way again ( as it was ! )  Are your coil wires insulated from each other . Did you use the right wire for your coil .  Check what you did .  Cornelius
