I would like to say to everyone involved that Cornelius did indeed send me a PERFECTLY WORKING detector which was an act of kindness above and beyond the call of duty, for that, all I can say thank you so much.
It was my ignorence that led ME to damaging the detector, and the rest is written history.
Cornelius, I am Very Sorry if my stupidity may have cast a shadow on your electronic expertise and know how. I did not mean for that to happen.  Pray
I hope we are still friends, and continue to share your knowledge with me. Waveing

Sincerely  Aliman Funny

Its alright Aliman . Look at it this way, you got some education . You bought a book  and probably will go on in the field of electronics .  If that is something I had a hand in than I am satisfied .   Cornelius

I have another question, can I install an ON/OFF switch to the detector, if so, where in the circuit should it be installed. I tried installing it in the negative side but realised soon after that the positive side still had voltage running through it.
Any help would great.

Thanks   Aliman

Put the switch in the OV line . One battery will be switched off by disconnecting the Plus  wire  while the other battery will be switched off by disconnecting the minus wire .   Cornelius

You see, why didn't I think of that. Brilliant!
0V is combined with half of each battery, yes. I'm learning by making mistakes !

This is a cool little design.

There is at least ten things you can do to make it hotter.

Most are within the Article posted.

I have a few more that worked for me.

The Spirally wound Coil was the start of most.

CORNIEALIUS. YOUR THE MAN.

Not many people would give a working machine away to a Newbie!

Homefire . There is nothing that  gives me more pleasure than to help people . On the other side I am smart enough to know to whom to give . There are some that just want to have for ,, have it  ,,  sake  and than there are some that just are wishing for something . It was up to me to determine what kind of person Ali was . I did not make a mistake . Ali was deserving the detector , and worked on it when he made a mistake  ( connecting a shorted out coil to the TIP 31 A ) . He could have discarded it and say well the hell with it . But he did not do so and that makes him different from many others I have known .He can count on all the help he needs . And when someday he needs another PCB I will help him again . The only thing I want him to do is to study the subject as much as he can .  Regards  Cornelius

Hi Guys

Tell me Ali did you use new magnet wire or was it used wire that you used on this now working coil? if it is new wire and if you have some more you could make different size coils all that you have to do is work out the length of wire that was used in this working coil by the formulae pi*D*turns or 2pi*rSqr*turns you now have total length used and as long as you use the same length of wire you can make any size coil that you like.

Xavier, the wire that I used for the working coil is the Used wire, it is 22 awg, 20 turns on 200mm diameter. One question, I understand why you said not to use enamled copper wire  to tie up the coil bundle, the coil would detect the copper wire as metal because its not part of the circuit, correct me if I'm wrong.
The curious thing is that on page 4 of the Sandbanks PI detector instructions, actually say to Use pieces of copper wire to tie up the coil bundle, whats up with that ??
