vpr2064 . No you are not wrong about the DBP2010 . I built two of them . One to experiment with and the other to just use .  This PI detector is not easy to build and you have to have knowledge about electronics . Burt the result is fantastic .  Together with Christian we will make the PCB available soon .   Cornelius

Hi, I'm new to Thunting.com.  I'd be interested in building my own PI unit as well.

Hello Blue . Many PI circuits are posted on the Forum Here . Take some time and search the "Tech Talk" area in the Message boards .
Best Regards.......Eugene

I'm also trying to decide which circuit to build. After looking at several designs brain feels jammed from all the info. Looks like I've narrowed it down to either Gary's PI or one of the PI's listed in the download section of this forum.  The nice thing about Gary's is that the project is well documented with many successfull builds.

Good huntin'

If Cornelius and Christian can consider making a completely built, ready-to-use PI for sale, I may be a customer! My knowledge of electronics is limited to putting in batteries and learning the machine, not in making it. Cheesy

Have built a few,homebuilt Pi,
You must decide whether you want one with a MicroController chip or not.
with a micro they must be coded.instructions programmed into the chip to make the unit function.
examples may be Pi detectors like the Stuart2 or Goldpic3 or the later Hammerhead from Carl Moreland design.all exellent an with easy to make homebuilt Mono coils.but the Micros can be a problem, getting a coded chip. You can get preprogrammed micros for the Stuart2 design from Magenta electronics UK relatively cheaply.Or for the Goldpic3 from Trevor Hill in S.Africa he provides a cheap kit for his with Chip programed an PCB an full documentation.
Else stick to Non Micro units like the earlier Stuart design,Garrys Chemelec units,or early Hammerhead by Carl Moreland are all well documented designs.
I believe there is also some early Eric Foster designs floating the Net. exellent designs from the father of Pi. like units based on c-scope CS6Pi who Eric had designed for. Just that some parts are becoming harder to find an then build,eg. Like the small low power Mosfets etc an J113 Fets .parts that are required.
Best stick with the best documented design you can come across an designs that only use a single sided easy to etch or create PCB.

Hi Guys, i've started to build my PI detector, but the problem is, that i have a ringing on the back EMF pulse, no matter how i damp the coil. It keeps sitting superponed on the decaying pulse. It's amplitude is about 10% of the pulse and about 10 times the frequency, and decaying as the pulse amplitude decays. Unfortunately i don't know how to post pics -i guess i'm not allowed yet-, so i cannot show it. It is a MOSFET driven coil, 11" diameter, 22turns, made of 26AWG regular wire, mined from an ethernet cable. Do you have any ideas how to get rid of it? Its getting smaller as the microseconds pass, but it's not doing good to the following amplifier stage..
