yes pi can discriminate, here it is, dig 3holes 1foot deep then 1foot apart place different types of metal eg.silver,stainless,aluminum in same size and cover it. then detect those metal, you can easily identify those metal in discriminate mode.

it is impossible to pi machine to discriminate mixed metals in different kinds in one hole and different size metals.eg big sized aluminum above the small sized gold. heheh..very impossible...
