You can get a hex editor for free of the net but the problem is that you will first have to learn programing in order for it to be of any use to you. You will also need to know how the hardware works. If you know how the hardware works it's probably easier to write your own program than to try to back engineer the original one. GD has a lot more knowledge that I regarding this kind of problem but I think that he will agree with me on this, get a programmed chip and just plug it in and be done with the headache.  Just one more thing that you should consider, Do you really need an LCD that will not tell you much at all?  I have one on my detector and all it tells me is the state of my battery. The only reason why I have it is because I wanted to see if my software would work and I was thinking of adding a ferrous, non ferrous indicator but a red and green LED would work just as well if not even better.

Sorry, but that is not the source code. That's the HEX code which cannot be modified. You need to contact the designer and ask for help.
