Delta Pulse 2

Go Up Go Down

Hi to All,
I'm new member and this is my first post, I built Delta Pulse 2 (Turkish one sided PCB) with coil 19 cm, enameled copper wire 0.4 mm (I just have one role of it) with 31 turn. So, my questions are:
1- How can I make my DP 2 metal detector sensitive to IRON with small pieces ?
2- What is the best frequency to detect iron with small targets ?
3- What parts of the PCB must be changed to be able for iron detecting even small pieces ?
4- any advice for coil ? and what is the best dimensions of coil ?
I'm looking for you answers and advices,
Thanks

Go Up Go Down

HI. I bought a completed board off Sinko on Ebay, and fitted it up into a detector. It took me ages to work it out, as I was trying to tune it for small gold, when they are instead inherently deep on large iron. The first coil I made for it was rectangular, 30x50cm, 3 rounds of Cat5(8x3wires) end joined orange,orange/white,green,green/white,blue,blue/white,brown,brown/white.( I read somewhere orange-green-brown-blue)
24 rounds joined, but tapped at brown/brown/white junction. The full rounds made 550uH (too high) and with brown/white disconnected it was 420uh (too low). The 23 rounds, with last round still connected open-ended gave me 450uH, and 480uH with the lead. This coil will see my car at 4 metres.
I am thinking the open ended round is acting as a shield of sorts.
Then I made an elliptical coil 30x15cm(approx.) That was 5 rounds end connected, the last 2 open-ended(8x5 less2=38). Again I needed to leave the last 2 connected to get the inductance around 450uH. Coil must be 3 to 5 ohms
For small iron/metal I would try 25cm round, 5 rounds(=40 wires), all joined. Leave the joins exposed so you can try 1 or 2 rounds less also.
This detector is actually designed for large coils (1M-2M square) and large objects.
The description of the control knobs was confusing, and their best settings not clear.

From left to right Noise Signal Sens Gain Tune Thresh Vol

Noise-regulates power to coil. Start at zero if you are unsure of coil resistance. ( mine is set at zero for small gold)
Signal-used for acceptance and rejection of small objects. This is pulse delay (mine is set at zero, least delay, for small gold)
Sens- regulates the ground effect. Start at mid-range.(mine is set at max, which is maximum pulse width for small gold)**This may need to be lowered for small iron objects.
Gain-as high as possible without wavering or being erratic.(around half on mine)
Tune-Used for coarse tuning in Manual mode.(This will need adjusting whenever you change any other settings)
Thresh-Fine tuning in Manual or Auto.
Vol-volume.

If Noise or Gain is set too "hot" auto mode will not be able to balance when you press the auto-tune button (works in Auto mode only).

It's a bit of a bugger to set up, and may not be your best choice for small stuff. But it is an absolute powerhouse for deep objects.

I am quite happy to be corrected here. Any additional information or corrections may help me to further enhance  this baby.

Hi Timc,
Nice detector. wow, so much important information you shared with me, thank you Mr. Timc, you wanna making you detector to be more sensitive to Gold. on the other hand I wanna mine be for Iron. there is a guide to modify DP2 to be sensitive to small pieces of Gold, see the link and download it, Enjoy!

So, you don't do any modifications on PCB parts? Right?

Thanks Mr.MohKuEng.
My board has not been modified by me. I think Sinko did a good job of setting it originally.
I downloaded your pdf-I intend to fabricate another Sniffer in the future. Perhaps I was wrong saying delay was pot 2, but no matter, as I use it with pots 1 and 2 at zero. My Sinko pcb seems to be quite good on gold from standard. The main modification I would consider would be the pull-down resistor, as it has a very slow response. Perhaps on my homebuilt board I will try to lower pulse delay.
I have a Hantek 20MHz 2 probe oscilloscope coming soon, so when I learn to use it I will be able to experiment more.
My current projects are the Silverdog Baracuda, Newhobby Magnum (clone), and repairing a Compass 94b I bought off Ebay.
My near-future list to do is Arado 120B clone, Sascho TR 2 box, Sascho mini, Sascho IB, MytyMite, Falcon MD20, Tesoro Diablo, 17kHz Italian LX756. etc., etc.,etc...
On a side-note Cat5 network cable is recommended by Sinko for the Sniffer 1x1m coil(one round/8wires). I saw a(small-ish)fast coil(can't remember which detector) made with it on a Russian website also, and my best coil on my SurfPro is made from 3 rounds,(25cm?) twisted to lower self-capacitance.(30x15 on Sniffer also twisted).

Hi Friends,
I found a second article about Delta Pulse 2, it's corrected version of first article with more information and it's containing modified part list (page 14 to 16),

Hello delta coil press for better IIa and a scale, two of them passeth among them.
120mm - 36 turns- wire size 0.40 - 1.9 Ohm
300mm - 20 turns -0.50 wire size - 1.6 Ohm
They are my recommended

Thanks Mr. Yasinski,
I have just enameled copper wire with size (0.4 mm). 120 mm coil is small to me, I found a link contains some coil designs for PI metal detectors, I want to make that with 250 mm diameter.

hola te paso de 250 mm. Round 22 -wire size 0.40 mm-2.3 Ohm resistance .
pero e recomendado 120 mm por su mayor sensibilidad para la pepita pequeña de oro y 300 mm de buen alcance para una moneda .
Sepan disculpar mi mal Ingles .
Saludos.
