for me, i'm satisfied the performance of the dp i built, it is very stable pi and it penetrates deep underground. and it satisfies my need in deep search.(smallest target steel ammo box 7x12x8 inch loaded with copper cartriges burried 5ft underground coil used 40cm=detected) in my experiments with pi's, test you pi in actual, dont rely on air test it has a very big difference between air test and underground test.test your pi in different soil conditions including salt water and heavy miniralized soil, my dp survive's the test in very stable performance. the next pi that will be subjected to rigid test is the dbp 2010,hope it will survive or....junk! "my dp beat's the deepmax in actual test." the next maybe pulstar.

Salaam,

It means that if you have done the proper soldring than IRF840 must not be over heated,
there must be some wrong wiring done by you ,
i am sending you IRF840 wiring configuration , if you placed this transistor in in front of you than you have to count the wires from left side (1 =Gate , 2= drain , 3= Source),
coil one end must be sold with drain (1) wire , Source (3)  will be with negative power supply & gate (1) should be attached with the signal IC (LM556).
i think no need to used Zenor diode (150v)  from source to drain ,
also used proper power supply (12V) to this section of circuit.

Best Regards,

Engr Obaid

irf 840 heats if search coil is below 1.8ohm resistance or maybe have trouble in transmitt circuit the osc 556 or pulsewidth too long.

1.8 Ohms means that coil winding is  of 4 or 5 turns,( short path for the applied voltages)  which it must be 25 to 30 turns, i think it is the reason.

Best Regards,

Engr Obaid

Eugene and others,

I did note that the designer of the pcb said he made a mistake on his pcb layout. He writes...

Dear Friends

I find a small error on delta pulse part replacement diagram that I send
please careuful about this and correct. there must not connection beetwen 1n4148 and 27 k I attached picture.

Somebody make error when copying from original.

darren,
to avoid errors in pcb, you must study the schematic before soldering those parts to pcb.
always based the schematic, connection errors will be detected in schematic, maybe you use pcb parts placement on that pcb w/c is different on schematic parts indicated.

regards ram,

Well said, Ram. The point of my post was to help those who may have constructed the pcb as Eugene posted it. It's a small oversight that could take hours of frustration to solve if you didn't know about it.

Hello . That resistor /diode problem was corrected about 1 year ago on this forum . I re-posted the correction .
Members starting a new project should always use the newest possible versions or dates . It is not your fault .
Projects on this and other Forums call it a " Work in Progress " , unless the project folder says " Final " . And sometimes Final is questionable . Any project can be improved , they call that a revision or modification .
If you make or buy a circuit board without checking its schematic first its ok , you can use jumpers for a missing trace or cut a trace out with an exacto knife . Do not throw a good PCB board in the garbage if you find an error or two . Remember most projects posted [PCB and schematics] are made by Tech / Hobby builders like you and me in the first place .
With careful work , all projects posted on this forum can be completed with excellent results !!!
The BC series transistor substitutions and the different size coil winding specs. were already posted somewhere on this forum . I will try to find it today .

Regards...........Eugene
