Thanks Darkkitten for helping all of us out with your information . This is what I had in mind when I posted my negative remarks about the in-complete information that is usually given on this forum when it comes down to schematics .  Thanks again for your contribution .  Cornelius

thats much appreciated
thanks

 12 turns of 0.8mm Cu wire on 23cm x 33cm square frame (2200uF capacitor!)

use 2200uF for coil capacitor and 11 turns of 0.8mm wire on 23cm x 34 cm square.

Darkkitten just checking here
in the posts above you give 12 turns and then 11 turns, which would be the correct number ?
thanks

Right, both will do the same. I made several different coils, just measured one it came under my fingers first.

d.

O.K. you have got me with this one, so i checked with my notes, you will get by with anything between 10 and 14 turns but OPTIMUM is 12 turns. The depth will suffer somewhat abowe 12 turns and current consumption will be somewhat larger below 12 turns, without any depth gain. The circuit cannot be adjusted with no. of turns out of this window.

regards,
d.

Go Up Go Down

Hello, after building a few older ib projects (matchless, eti549, eti1500) and the eti561 bfo, i have decided to try a simple pi. the ee treasure hunter seemed to me as a good start option, so I build it (corrected errors on pcb) The problem is -  it gives a short tone on startup and switchoff, when in "operation" its difficult to get a tone out of it (it gives one when I touch it with bare hands) and when i can adjust a low clicking (its not really a clicking its somehow distorted) there is virtually no sensitivity - the sound FALLS in pitch when I bring a large piece of metal 10x10cm alu plate about 5 cm close. I feed it with 8nimh aa cells that give about 10.5V I use the original coil 27windigs on 19cm, 0.7 wire, i have also tried the 23x33 square coil with same results. Please give me some advice, Im not familiar with these and it looks like a some of you have build them thanks in advance.
