I am a beach hunter. I heard these were pretty good at first for hunting beaches, but now I have heard conflicting stories. Seems the part where you could discriminate some stuff out doesn't do so well on the beach. I already have a excellent beach detector which is a pulse also and it doesn't discriminate. I would guess the TDI is a good nugget detector, but not for some purposes such as beaches where there is too much trash.

Hello George . If it is you , I have heard only good things about you and your work , and it is great to finally meet you !!..........My question is , how is its performance with Gold at the 10 micro-second setting ? What about Silver and can you post some simple field test results . Can you disclose if it is a Pure Pulse induction machine or Close to it ? I do have great respect for Whites and their products !........Tearing apart metal detectors and studying them has been a hobby of mine for over 40 years !..............Thank-You......Regards......Eugene52

I own a Whites TDI and it works very well but very differently than a VLF detector, I like PIs alot more than VLF units Rider

Hello The Whites TDI does not even see or pickup hot rocks it completly ignores them!! As for beach hunting it works like a champ black sands actually help this unit work better on the beach, also NO VLF in the world could even remotely compete with the preformance of a PI I have found bobbie pins at two feet with this unit with a very strong siginal, all of my VLF metal detectors pickup hot rocks but the Whites sees right through them, also with a VLF you measure the depth preformance in inches with the Whites TDI it is measured in FEET!! It is everything a top of the line metal detector is suppose to be, it also has a ground balance and discrimination mode and this guy feels very natural to use to me, I can't say enough good things about this detector after owning the TDI for 9 months I will not buy another VLF a PI is the only way to go, also I am an Electronics Technician and understand the working of metal detctors very well....
