Hey guys I know this question has been asked before but the search function is still refusing to answer my requests.  What is the best frequency for a PI machine for gold, most metals have a particular frequency that they respond to better than others, so what is golds?

Mucho TIA,
Gramps

In a PI machine, the frequency doesn't really matter that much. The technology is hot for gold and ferrous metals.

In VLF, go for either the really low end of 5khz or the upper end of 150khz (and higher). I have a 300khz machine that loves gold. Even those tiny chains.

Hey, Gramps!  How did you do on the gold finding this last summer?  Did you get out prospecting or gold detecting much?   Good to see you posting again!           Take care, and best of luck!             Detecting

Hey Arfie, no i didn't get out much and that was uneventful.  My son had my truck and I had his Mazda 3, if I had taken that up in hills the wife would have exploded.  Got the truck back today so now if we get break in the precip. for a couple of days I'll bundle up and head for the hills.  How was your summer over on the east side?

GD , the MXT pro runs around 15 KHz  and whites claims its super at finding even small nuggets ? is Whites pulling the consumers leg or is there some truth behind what they say?

to GD. ditto here. Somehow I came away with the idea that 15 Khz was supreme for gold. I did most of my reading on Garrett's, which I have a soft spot in my head for. We need some more schooling out here.

In truth, as long as you use the all metal mode, there is really very little difference between the frequencies. Oh, it's measurable, all right, but only just barely so. The difficulty lies in the conductivity of gold which is very, very good when purified. Nuggets are almost never truly purified gold and always come alloyed with some other metal making it an iffy sort of thing to quantify.

In a nutshell, just use the all metal mode for best results. If you don't have that mode, use absolutely zero discrimination and you'll do all right. You'll find junk, too, but once you clear that up, you'll find the gold. Just ask any old timer here about that.

Here are my Experiences on Gold and Freq.

I started with a BFO Crusader Off the Wall detector.

It was running at 360KHz.

It could find a Penny at a honest 5".

Being of the All metal sorta machine they Show Gold on the None Ferrous side of the scale but you would not find a 1 gram nugget with it.

(It did find me Good Gold by using it to find Black Sands Deposits to Sample)

My NEXT  machine was a Garrett ADS running at 15KHz.

Now that machine could and did find gold Nuggets down to 1/4 Gram down to 6-8 inches at times.

Things had to be going just so to hit the 8" mark.

Most of my hunting at this time was along Open Bed Rock so it worked to the most parts in the Crevices and Cracks if not so deep.  This was with the Stock 7 or 8 inch coil.  Concentric type.

While I was away from Camp doing some Crevising That machine got Robbed out of my Truck one day.   That Sucked

NEXT I purchased a newer Garrett Deep Seeker runing in the 5.5KHz range.

This beast was HOT as HELL on Silver coins and Copper but just didn't do the Gold so well.

It would not see a 1/4 gram Nugget two inches from the coil being waved like a Raped Ape or Standing still.

Through the BONE YARD on another Forum someone sent me a Garrett S3.   The thing was all messed up but I got it working replacing the Speaker and a switch.

It was running at 15KHz.

Again it could and did sing on the 1/4 gram stuff most well down to about 4-6".   Mind you this was a Cheapo Introduction type detector made for Coin Hunting.

I think they cost like $130.00 or so New.

I still have this machine and  Never plan on Selling or Giving it up.

The Little Bounty Hunter Camo LS BitBurg gave me can find a Backing for a 14K Ear Ring in Dry sand at the Kiddie Park down below 8-9 inches of sand.

Mind you that's not the stuff you work out in the Desert.

It runs at 6.5KHz.

The 14K Gold has Silver or Copper as a Doping in the Alloy.

It will not see the 1/4 gram nugget at 4" no matter what setting I have it on.

Gold Hunting is All Metal, Sense as high As it will do and Hum Away.

I have used the Fisher Gold Bug runing at 70KHz.

Now those beast will find Coacroach shit size gold that will drive you crazy tring to Isolate from the Sands.

There also hot on Un Wanted Goodies.

The little Falcon runing at like 300KHz finds the Spects of Spects.   Them there will drive you Nutts if you don't know what your seeing!

So Yes, I Have the Mind Set that Freq does have a Bearing on what the Detector will or will Not See.

Did you Know that the Little Compass Pease Of Junk 94B that every one chucked out running at 100KHz Blasting through Iron Junk was a Killer on Gold?

Ok it was as TR but it Talked!

TR Sucks because you have to hold it at a level sweep and hear the toons.

People now days want Instant Gratitude and Have little intrest what there Brain can do.

They just want the Dig or No Dig .  LOL

I love them guys!    They walk over all the Good Stuf.
