I have a Treasure Baron Gold Traxx that has a tone, but it don't change when I pass it over gold or metal of any kind, and any help would be appreciated. It worked when I left NoCal to work the winter in Phoenix a few years back, then the next spring when I went to use it, it no worky.

I found some info about your detector.
It say that’s a modular detector and the different modules are added to the base Red Baron model, and the modules can be changed by the user.
I think what it may happen is corrosion set in on the contacts of where the modules connect to the main board.
You can buy a contact cleaner spray WITHOUT oil from an electronics shop and spay to clean the contacts.
That my fix the problem.

Nickel and Homefire, thanks for your replies, I read the article you linked to, and have read the users manual before, this is a very complex machine, and I have used it quite a bit, finding mostly iron. My use has been mostly in the South Mountain wash past the stables, where a friend had found gold coins of an unknown and unknowable minting, on the beach near the Klamath outflow, and in the streambed near where I lived in NoCal. I put new batteries in it and tested it the other day, to no avail, I will pull it apart and try to clean the contacts next. I don't know if the thin wire taped to the bottom of the search-head is connected on both ends or not, it fell apart once, and I soldered the one end where I knew it had come from because of the wire indent on the solder, and it worked, found gold I put down, silver, and iron. Thanks again for the link.

Homefire, it 'squeaks' when I turn it on, and the LED for iron blinks when it should, but it don't 'see' the gold or silver I use to test it, and there's no tone when the LED for iron blinks either.
