Hello,

I hope that this finds you all well. Many many thanks to those who responded re OKM help required post. We listened, juggled the books and were able to purchase a TM808 and it has arrived in sunny Zimbabwe.

We have taken it for a test drive in areas where we had previous finds. (read the manual. operating on AUTO SETTING) Does anyone out there have prospecting experience using the TM808. Our initial signals are consistently occurring but cutting ie machine has higher tone then quietens to nothing. Can anyone help. We did all the balancing etc. We are not expecting this on the Auto setting??? Do we have a real signal?

Many thanks

Hello,

the TM 808 is a classic unit but remains on of the best cacher hunters. It is good for detecting larger metal objects such as for example a steel helmet, an iron chest etc. It will get those at 100 cm / 3 feet and up.

When wanting to prospect for natural gold / nuggets the Minelab GPX series is probably your best choice. A used SD 2200 Minelab detector can get your started well. The more expensive GPX units will of course outperfom it but are also more expensive.

Hope this helps.

best wishes,

Christian

Hi Christian

Apologies should have explained better. We have already scanned with the GPX 5000 and had previous finds. We are now using the TM808 as a deep seeking machine for greater depths than the Minelab GPX. We have posted on this previously and indications were that in order to achieve greater depths we should look at the two box machines ie the TM808

Having now purchased the TM808 we are trying t0 determine what actual signals sound like.

Hm, personally I am not sure if the TM808 will give you more depth than the GPX? If you have a GPX - which is a very good machine - you might be doing better attaching a 1 x 1 m or 2 x 1 m loop to it. These loops will eliminate all small targets but only get big ones. Large items can be detected at more than 150 cm but remeber that chances of someone burying anything below 1 m are very little.

808 is for large Items.   In auto it is just ground balancing and will go quiet after a spell.   Not the Machine for Gold Nuggets.

Rule of thumbs to remember is large coil large objects, small coil small object.

Hello please may I have more details about the loops. What brand are they etc. What do they look like.

Many thanks
