How is the sensitivity of Version 1.2.0  on small objects such as a gold pierced earring?

Go Up Go Down

Hi everybody.
I did try to make a fast coil as last pictures of the replay 1 of the 04  September 2009 of Kotsansher,
With no luck. the coil never ends up to look like anything like it even using the temp plate pictured.
Can perhaps someone translate the green and blue color text of  (One of variants of fast mono coil with low interwinding capacitance ).
Sure I am missing something somewhere.
Kind regards
Nickel

I have built the Chance on Silverdog's beautiful PCB version 0.8.4 and it detected placer gold flakes totaling about the volume of a matchhead contained in a glass vial at a distance of about three inches in air.

Then version 1.0.1 firmware was released with required hardware mods to the PCB.  I performed the mods and ordered a new ATMEL processor from Silverdog with the 1.0.1 firmware installed.  The unit has never worked, it just constantly buzzed no matter what settings, distance, or metal was presented to it.

I have since removed the 820 ohm mod restoring the original 1500 ohm in it's place and reinstalled the version 0.8.4 controller, leaving the other mods in place.  It acts much better than the 1.0.1 version but has far less sensitivity than the original 0.8.4 hardware configuration without the later mods.  I am at a loss to say if the 2nd controller is bad or if the 1.0.1 firmware is bad.

I do know that I am in limbo awaiting a verdict on the latest 1.1.1 firmware from Andy F. the author.  It appears that there are significant problems yet to be resolved and the only one who can do it is Andy F.  I'd like to try out the version 1.1.0 firmware as some indicate it is usable.

 Ok, an update on CHANCE

after packing my eldest off to Uni, I finally got some time to play with CHANCE

It was ok after all !!

Having checked hardware changes over and over, mschmahl gave a big clue in a previous post, if you coil is not to spec you get the constant tone experienced by several people.

I adjusted the guard interval to 35 and away it went !!

My coil was a quickly made basket coil and although inductance was ok, I suspect my wire is too thin.  I'll be making a better coil soon and will try and do a youtube video of it working.

Silverdog

I suggest you try a guard interval of 25, then increase by 5 until coil responds

good luck

Silverdog

Hello
Need your help. Display only illuminating, but no characters.

I assemled everything like in the shematics from Andy. The Kit is from Silverdog.
On X3 in the Shematic i connectet 1 to 1 on the LCD an so on.

I didnt use a coil yet, but it seem to work. I hear a sound when i push the button, sometimes higher pitch tones or lower. Like risining a bar in the menu.
But as i said, no characters.

In the shematic there stood that to use a speaker with 50-100 Ohm but my little one only got 8... but it work. Could this be a Problem.

I checked the connector to the display, every cable has contact.

Please help, dont know what to do.
