  The Arduino is a Crazy little controller with about a Million Uses.   You can find more then a Few detector designs and sketches currently on line to get you started.  Get your self a few   Nokia 5110 displays.  Low Power.  Sorta Daylight Visible.  Easy to use.  Cheap too.

Now I have more than a year of experience with the Chance. Tried the "Pawol" firmware, 1.5.8. Sensitivity down about 30%. Sticking with the 1.2.1 version from Andy. For what this detector is, it is excellent. After a few hours and digs you get used to the sounds and start to distinguish with your ears. Gold, silver and nickel alloys are identified reliably, so is aluminium and larger copper and brass targets. Problems appear with small copper, brass and bronze targets, but if you leave the iron mask to 1, it is possible to distinguish between iron and colour targets with a certain experience. An IB discriminates better of course, but for an relatively simple to build PI it works very well, especially if you give it some time and get used to it.
