I have tons of spare parts I have gathered over the past 50 years. When I need an op amp or other part, I generally buy 10 or 20, as cheap as they are. Comes in handy.

When Xavier was building a detector, I sent him almost a full pound of parts which included every part he needed for the project. He nearly had a "tech-gasm" over the package when it arrived.

Yea, same here  If I need one I order like 10.  After a while you have a pretty cool Bench Stock built up  ..

Damn I miss Xavier.   He still owes me a Detector.  He better have it ready when I get there.

He's working on a dual coil, multiple frequency halo detector that works on mineralized clouds. He'll probably have a patent for it by the time we get there.

Good old Xavier. He was one of my best students. Seriously.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

yep...... had trouble with some bogus 5A diodes........ just ripped those puppies out and installed 4 866A s in full wave bridge and run the 2.5V filaments at about 13Amps.  Best part is that wonderful purple glow.....and the feeling that there is no foreign embedded spyware getter gas lurking inside!!!    Lips Sealed Wink
