I have owned the Lorenz and Pulse Star II. They will work on heavily mineralized soil but I haven't worked on pyrite soil yet.

I have used two different PI's in the gold country heavy with pyrites and hot rocks, there is no effect on them. The TR type detector is also unaffected by pyrites and hot rocks, but the depth of detection is shallow. I good test of a detector is to scan a ferrite core like used in an Am radio antenna. If it sounds off than it will be effected by the hot rocks.

You are right, setting up a PI machine is not toohard unless you want a design with discrimination ability. This is unfortunately rather hard to establish.

Christian
