calling the wizards, the purpose of this project is to use the sonar controller/display for pulse induction metal detector underground metal object imaging.

i owned a old humminbird 400tx monochrome 5 inch lcd display controller. i found out that the two input pins is active if touched it will display two graphs left n right, the right side will display solid graph n the left side will display like scratches and the deepness indicator will activated if touched by bare hands indicating 128 feet reading.

now, the pi is same functions as radar, send emp n received eddy currents,as sonar is sending continous pings and receiving the returned sound for imaging.(200khz-455khz in 400tx)

to the wizards, it is possible that pi will send contenous emp and the sonar controller will received the eddy currents thru modified coil and pi receiver circuits for underground metal object imaging?

Maybe you could process the Audio Signal from the PI to emulate the signal coming from  Piezo element used to receive the Echo Return of the Ultra Sonic Pings?

Determine the freq the Piezo produces and Shift the Detector Audio to the same?

Worth a try. Cheesy

yes got it homefire and thank you,

the freq is 200khz ultrasonic pings from transducer.

 heres i found on connectors.

ahh.. the best is to disect the transducer module (transom mount type) the ping generator as well as the amplifier were on that module and also the receiver. 5 wires were from transducer module going to 5 pin connectors of controller. 1-2 power supply to transducer, 3-4 to active inputs and depth returned signal indicator. 5-is unknown. all were in one module transom mount type.

How did you determine 200khz?

That's way above Ultra Sonics.

hello homefire,

the manual told that the sonar were operating at standard freq 200khz with standard transom type transducer with the power of 300 watts and can reach max of 600 ft image result. and can be extended by using the tribeam transducer operating at 455khz at high resolution image result at a depth of 1000ft and power of 800 watts. so, it is obvious that the power amp were on the transducer module but i suspected the ping signal generator were the unknown pin of controller. i have to setup some oscilloscope and frequency counter software and probes in my computer to determined the signals.

That is not Ultrasonic.  That well into the RF spectrum getting close to the AM band.

Your going to have to Emulate the Signal and Information in order for the Box to Recognize it.

Do you have a Scope?

If you do you can see how they Modulated the Ultra Sonic impression on the RF.

AM, FM , Quasi Amplitude Phase Shift?

Bottom line is you need to know what the Module is sending to the Box.

update: i opened my 400tx, inside i located the receiver circuit w/c is narrow band fm using mc3371 ic. and the squarewave generator for transmitter using lm339 with output tmos power v fet TMP15N06V. the transmitter output consisting of 3 power v fet for downward bottom scan,side scan left,side scan right. transmitting frequency from 50khz to 455khz depending on the transducer used. the output were automatically detects if transducers were rigged. transmitt and received were same function in pi md with timing circuitry for on and off only the frequency were on ultrasonic range but the circuit is adjustable for desired frequency.

homefire, maybe your idea to emulate the signals were correct. i have to try the modified search coil to be used and using ne5534 for signal input.

If you want to use the Desplay you have no other choice.  The way Sonar works is most simular to the way the PI works. 

1. Sonar uses Phase, and Amplitute.

2. PI uses Decay of Eddy Currents.

3. Convert the Decay to Amplitude Emulating the original Signal.Huh??

You need to know more on how the signal is being converted from a Ultra Sound Echo to FM carrier.

My guess would be it's just amplitude.
