You did good Kenny. There is a learning curve to just about anything. Pictures are best viwed on this site with resolution of about 800 x 600.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Sister Site GeoTech is the place.   What do you want to know?

I use geotech also but sometimes you have to look forever and can wind up with outdated info. I have the Silverdog Chance kit that has a zillion discussions on geotech. Sort of gave up on that project. When I get around to finishing the coil for the  Silverdog PI  I'll do some more looking. I know there were some jumpers that had to be to installed, several components had values that were changed, and I believe a small scheme change.   I think silverdog may have changed the pcb layout also.

The Silverdog Surf PI 1.2 is OK and has no recent revisions, just get the Pcb or the kit and heat up the soldering iron. As for the coil I think I have settled for about 8 inches, as I have tried to emulate the coil spec of others and can never get close, I use the coil calculator, I have meters for L,C, and R and scope, several types of wire (single and stranded) I have wound 18cm to 35cm coils.....8 inches, all maybe because of some very obvious interference that comes from who knows where? it also effects my Teknetics too (there is wireless, Bluetooth plus local TV and Radio cable running under the houses here.. The real answer is to build it and adjust it outside, but it is too cold for me at the moment.  My best PI coil is 16 turns of .5 wire at about 8 inches across. Hope this helps, look for kenny444 on geotech and you will see I have asked lots of questions, while the best tip I can give you is check the pin 6 output on a scope, while using an adjustable resistor, (1 x 200R resistor + 1 x 1200 pot) in parallel with a 1200R  and adjust for a (just) ringing signal, measure the group and replace it with a fixed 2W value.  Smiley enjoy
