hello everyone,

is it possible for an newbee to build a 2010?

Is it worth it?

What are the advantages of such a machine?

Hey phi Welcome from TEXAS

unless you have the tools and know how to build a detector you would be better off buying one.

Hi Seldom,
I have little and imprecise knowledge about detectors, but I am progressing. I read several articles ( on the web but not only) and I understand the principles.
I have a soldering iron and am full of good will.
Maybe I can build one "With a little help from my friends"?

Anyway thanks for your advice. I have looked the garrett ace 250 ( affordable ), but also the fischer f75 ( expensive but seems to be more fun to use).

Without electronics knowledge, it is not quite hopeless but close. You'll need much more than a LITTLE help from others.

I'm afraid that this "can do" attitude that most people are imbued with lately cannot be applied to a skill that requires years of study. You cannot possibly turn yourself into an electronics technician with a positive attitude.

Stay away from the 2010 for now. Start with simpler, easier to build circuits like these at this site and learn how they work.

There are two much simpler circuits there that will help you to understand just a little of what you are undertaking.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thank you for your advice golddigger, even if it is not what I would have liked to read.

I am of those who think that where there's a will there's a way, but what I read made the will disappear.

Anyway, I have looked further into the 2010 caracteristics and it seems not to be appropriate for the use I intend : IP MD seem better to find deep but big targets, the number of parameters is too high, I would have to calculate too much.
I intend to search for coins, medals... not for anything else, but the MDs on the site you indicated seem to be a little too short sighted.

Can anyone tell me more about the VLF 770 ?

Gary's Pulse Induction

Hey there, Phi!

I just finished building my second MD, Gary's Pulse-1.  His website has a very complete explanation on how to build the electronics of a straight forward pulse induction detector.  In its simpler form, there are very few dials, making its use fairly simple.  I suspect the reason most new builders are directed to PIs is because the construction of the coil is very straight forward.
