I am so glad that this little project on the BFO detector worked for you . It is a nice project and maybe you can introduce this to a few of our members that are not up to building the bigger projects . Although I may say that even this little BFO project is not for the ones that never held a soldering iron  Grin   Cornelius

Well Cornelius there is only one way to learn how to swim and that is jump in the deep end YOU will learn very quickly and you cant learn if you do not make any mistakes that?s how I look at it and if it?s any comfort to the reader who has not held a soldering iron yet I did not know what a transistor was till one year ago and now I have designed and build my own VLF detector and it works still a lot of place for improvement but it works.

Regards
Xavier

Xanvier .  My hat off to you . It shows again that if you want to do , it you can . I hope that quite a few of us start to build their own detectors . It is so rewarding to go out and detect coins by using your own built detector .   Cornelius

Yes you are quite right Cornelius and the nice thing about it is when people ask you where did you get that metal detector and you tell them that you build it your self they all seem so surprised that you could build your own metal detector like if the only place that you can get them is in the shop  Grin

Hi Crick2x

Do you want to buy a metal detector? If so there are a lot advertised on the net you just have to pick one that suits your needs and affordability on the other hand if you want to build one then I would have to asks you first if you have any experience in electronics as there are a lot of schematics some for the beginners and some for the more advanced hobbyist.

Regards
Xavier

Brian, the bigger you make the coil, the more apt you are to miss the small ones which are the most common. Before you go wild thinking that a coil the size of a VW would help you, remember that a coil that size might pass right over a meteorite the size of a baseball and smaller.
