Hi GD

I think what he meat was that he has a large area where he wants to look for meteorites and he would like to make a coil that will suit hunting meteorites not necessarily making a large coil.

regards
Xavier

Hi
I kind of want the best of both worlds. this is day 2 of my quest to hunt metors (metorites)? My expertise with metal detectors is 0. I do not wish to get buck fever( how big my coil is) but i probly will. also i will be using cheep detectors for the begining. so far i have learnd that there are a lot of detectors out thier and that each has its own use. i am going to try and stick to one subject (metorites) for now .
Thank You brian

Brian As far as I can remember meteorites have height ferrous properties therefore any metal detector will detect them and if you want to remain in the cheaper type of detectors(for starters) then go for BFO(beat frequency oscillator)in fact if you want it to be really cheap then you should make it your self(a worth while experience) you can always buy one at a latter stage (once you have found and sold some meteorites) as for making coils BFO will be the easiest all the others require a lot of experience not that I?m an expert at the matter but you can ask any one who has made coils what a headache they can be *&#@&% I know. Remember that larger coils will go deeper but will only find larger objects and lastly as for having the best of both worlds we would all like to have it. Wink

Happy hunting

Xavier
PS it?s gona be hard to stick to meteorites unless you throw away the gold coins Grin Grin

You can make a coil out of telephone wire or coax wire in fact probably any insulated wire but you have to watch out for weight and all that goes with it But now that I think of it you want to make a coil and you don?t have a metal detector to use it on not only that but you cant just turn wire into a coil and hope that it will work any how have fun in your quest for coils.

Xavier

Well to my knowledge you don?t get 18volt batteries so it would have to be 2x 9 volt there should be two battery clips it?s probably to have a +9v -9v and virtual ground but then again you should ask the older members as they have far more knowledge in the matter than me.

xavier

My Groundhog has a battery holder for four 9 volt batteries. Two are in series and two are in parallel making the supply voltage +18v and +9 volts. Inside the machine, I happen to know that they are using a split +/-9 volt circuit from the 18 volt side.
