Go Up Go Down

Greetings to everyone!!

About a week ago a friend of mine gave me a Garrett GTI 2500 he bought as "broken" from a friend of his...After some inspection i found oxidated power connector and cables that i fixed and it works. Then i entered this exciting new world thats called Metal Detecting!!!

From that day on , as an electronics engineer that i am,i read a lot about MD's and the various categories...I decided to build one so im targeting on a pulse induction MD..

Found a lot shematics online, the most explanatory i found was about the Hammerhead (Geotech) ,a lot of good explaining how stage to stage this MD works. Then i reallised that the majority of people who wants to build a MD is interested in other projects (TSGL,ClonePI,Proscan,Baracuda etc) and the question came out is does it worth to try this detector?I can see some potential in this circuit although it has not fancy lcd displays and mcu's (that i dont judge but i preffer to get the work done on some basic foundation electronics that comes with my age).

So i really need what you think of the hammerhead guys, any opinion will be apriciated

At last but not least thank you for your time reading this post and please forgive me for my bad English.

HammerHead was a Super Cool Project on conception. Most Versatile and could be tailored to suit your needs within reason.  Times Change.

A much more sensitive and Adjustable version of the same is the Mirage.  I do believe Sven still produces PCB's for the beast and the PCB's are no longer available for the HammerHead anyways.

Eaaaa, You Asked .  I responded.

Besides I have a PCB for one and it would be cool to watch you stumble and make all the Errors before I got there.  Yea,   That's the plan !   LOL

If I got your ears perked up you can learn more here :

Hello Homefire.

Thanks for your helpfull intervention!!As i understand from those i read the Mirage is based of the Hammerhead and "tailored" mostly to gold, nice!!

The most important thing for me is (based on one MD) is to find the optimal timmings and frequency's depending to what you are trying to detect..Also i thing a large part of a successful build is the coil, the part i have many unanswered questions in my mind..

Depending on the current the detector can give you to drive the coil (Pulse duration and PRF) you can calculate the wire size you are going to use to meet the resistance margins of the detector, right? My question is how to calculate the detector's impedance since the coil and its resistor are in parallel...

Secondary, not much a question is how it discriminates the ferrous and non ferrous metals...This will be answered when i have the detector ready and take various measurements..

Do you thing the schematics you gave me above have errors?Do you have a clear version of this schematic?I plan to design it with Eagle and make a board if there is no PCB available..

Can i use this detector without moving him side to side (like garrets pinpoint)??

For now my interest is as always in gold but also in metal objects so my main goal will be depth and iron detecting...

Thanks a lot for your time readind and replying to me and truth be said i don't give up witout a fight, specially in electronics were science is the standard!!Also please excuse the noob questions but i have to start somewhere right?

The information I provided is the Working Version.  NO ERRORS.  All information provided by Sven him self.

As for Discrimination of Ferris and Non Ferris, that is a function of sample timing .

Read the information in the Link Provided.    Yes, I do believe the Mirage PI is a NON Motion machine.

Coil Perimeters are all contained in the Schematic.

Homefire thanks for once again!! Clapp Clapp Clapp

I'm gonna try it,already ordered parts ..As for the pcb i asked at the contact info on the link you gave me and still no answer, make a pcb from scratch will take some time...

Also im thinking trying build the mixed Delta Pulse - Snifer XR71...

I will upload photos of the stages of construction and i hope for everybodys help to where i stuck especcially all of you with your level of experience.

I understand that lots of people visit the forum to get scematics and you never see them again, well, not that kind of guy!

PS the PCB on the photo above has the TMH1205D i believe the second PS circuit is equivalent to that right?Batterys possitive to PCBs earth and baterry's negative to -12v?

You may want to jump on this one.   All Documented and NE555 would provide  support.

NE555 shipped today his pcb,the thing that confuses me is all the different revisions of this MD,we have on hand the schematic for the unified Delta pulse sniffer xr71.The pcb reffers only Delta pulse legend +..
Anyway,Homefire is the pcb you posted above correct and error free?Sven answered back that mirage pcb is unavailable...If the above pcb layout is correct I think with little help of Corel I will have it printed by tommorow...

The mirage version of hammerhead is Sven's baby.  Smiley
you should ask him if the pcb is correct  Wink
