I got this old guy, and must replace the Battery box. It's a  White Coinmaster 4 DB.
Are the 8-AA's in series? Parallel? What voltage do I need?

Do y'all just bite the bullet and keep buying AA's?
Make a separate Pwr supply, hang it on your belt, and cable up to the Detector?
Rechargeables?
Solar Battery Charger for the Rechargeables?

Yes they are in Series.  12VDC

As it uses the 9V type battery clip, you could always extend a wire and us a battery pack on the hip but it's a pain in the Butt having another wire dangling around.

You have other options.!!!!!

GD just shown that rechargeable batteries are Viable.

There seems to be NiMh batteries that hold a good charge and don't self discharge.

I my self like the Old Ni Cad batteries.

I can get 3 or 5 years out of them treating them right.

That's about the same as you could use a battery in you car.

Me I like the 12v 1.3AH sealed lead acid batteries. Placed correctly on the detector shaft you wont even know that it's there and you get to detect a hell of a long time before you have to recharge them.

All the best Xavier

HF, your right about the NiCad's lasting a long time with good treatment.
I have experience with pager batteries.

I think I'd like to get a set of NiCad's with a larger mah rating.
ALso I'd like to hook up something cheap like this little film strip Solar charger for each battery.

I got this strip off Ebay, and now I can't find the seller to get more.
Does any of our advertizers sell these little Solar Chargers?

X I found a 12V 3.5A sealed lead acid battery for $20 on Ebay.
Is that what you have?
Do you have a photo or a name?
Dick

What is the output on that Solar Cell?

Most only put out .4 volts per cell.

That on looks to have five cells?

Current depends on the size.

Cool!   Not that big at all.   On the End of the Handle it would balance well! Cool

That's just it mate it works like a charm and with a VLF machine will last hours. I did one on Peters VLF but I had to regulate it down to 6v for him. I used an LM317T and it works like a charm.
