Yes you can.
There used to be a company here in the U.K. that supplied a spiral wound pcb coil as part of a "Build yourself" p.i. detector kit.
I've thought about trying to make one as it might well have some advantages (weight for one!).
as for housing it, i guess just wrap in fibreglass tape and job done!
Let us know how you get on!

sounds like a good idea to me , i hear that the tesoro sand shark pi has a printed circuit search coil , if they do it , there must be something in it .
suspect whether a one off or in mass production pcb easyer than winding and holding a flat planar coil.

I read somewhere in the net that it has many disadvantages, including weight as well as no internal capacitors between the windings and some of them, which weake.
best time

Thank You Ram!  I can play with that for a while.

Have you tried one?   I will try to calculate uH on this one.

Any way you can make up another with about ten more lines?

Going for Gold here!  How about a  3 X 9  Right Angle version?

Japanese,  On the PI Less Coil Capacitance = Faster Coil.  That's the reason for going to Etched coil.

Thank You Folks!
