Hi Golddustcarl

Thank you for share your very interesting and inventive approach in PI design.

I wish you all success with further improvements. Interesting in future (semi)kit also.

Thanks for schematic too, but to try with it, we need it in a little better resolution, some parts of schematic are unreadable for me. Can you post this schematic in better resolution? Thank you.

I will see what is possible on this forum as far as resolution goes. I may have to email it to you. The original is 10 times larger. I will post that answer as soon as I ask a moderator.
Thanks for your interest.

Posting them as a PDF works good.

Ok I finally got a pdf version of the schematic. I converted one online. I hope it is clear enough for everyone.

Good Stuff.  Now some information on the Coil is needed.   Cool

Nice Little Circuit. Interesting Design.

I think they are using an IB type coil . Primary would be 20 turns and secondary would be 15 turns . Keep the current lower .
I am just guessing , but there are a few PI coil [IB Type] instructions posted on the web.  Geotech1 and or Chemelec .

Dual "Field" PI Coil = No

To those that are interested in coil parameters: Coplanar style - 2 coils only.
Primary: 25 turns #22 or #21 enamel magnet wire. 8 inch outside diameter.
Secondary: 35 Turns #22 or #21 enamel magnet wire.  6 inch outside diameter.
390µh to 400µh should be your range. Be sure coils are bound tightly and non movable in your form. No shielding is needed.
Each coil must be slightly over dampened separately. Primary first. Use a good scope for this. And wire the coils so both spikes have positive polarity.
See the scope diagrams in the attachments. You will notice the level transformation that takes place. Primary is a +12 volt level dropping to .8v before going to the spike, and the secondary is a ground signal going to -10.4v before going to the spike. That is how the 2 1N4148 diodes remove the drive signal. The change in the width of the spike near the base is what we need to provide our ferrous/non-ferrous determination.
With the 4% duty cycle the mosfet is sucking about 3 amps so be sure to heat sink it.
Eugene. PI and IB are 2 different animals. IB coils does not do much for PI detectors but are most necessary in IB detectors.
The Geotech1 forum is pretty much outdated and dead (no new posts in over a year). Funny how Geotech is supposed to be the host for this site.

Hi GoldDustCarl .   Using Coplaner coils will not be as fast a response as a Mono-Coil .
And would not work too good on detection of small gold , but very good on everything else .

I will read more of your excellent posts .
Since I have been away from the forums for a while , I have missed a lot of good new stuff !!

Best Regards.......Eugene

Hi GoldDustCarl

I am in searching solution for multiple power supply needed, using 12V AA battery block (have such housing already).

Can you provide us info what what power consumption is to expected on 10V power supply trail and what on 5V power supply line?

a 7805 will work for 5 volts, and a 7810 for the 10 volts. Depending on drive current to the mosfet, a total drain on the 12 volts would be about 200-265 ma. Try using an 18 volt lithium ion power tool battery. It will last much longer than 12 volts.

Sorry folks, there will be no kits for this project.  :(This was my first successful PI detector, and I wanted to share it with everyone, and help inspire others to go further with it, and learn something about electronics. I don't mind helping you, and giving advice, but you have to show some gumption and build it yourself.
Good luck with your build, and you can contact me anytime. Kiss
golddustcarl
